Rejuvenation Day Spa and Salon: Special Care for Older Adults

A new way to take care of Mom and Dad is here. It’s been around for a long time, but our retired
and aging population are finally hearing the news. Going to the spa is good for you, both for Mom and for Dad. It’s not just a relaxing experience, but can be a good way to meet people and socialize.

The spa experience is one that all ages can enjoy. It’s a great way for couples to have a special day or for family and friends to spend time together.

There are many services offered at spas today, such as massage, facials, nail services, hair services and much more. There are lots of benefits for our aging population to receive such services. Foot care and nail care is essential for some. Adults tend to take their feet for granted. Older adults tend to ignore aches and pains and let things like toe fungus and ingrown toenails (onychcryptosis) go untreated, causing more pain and nail damage. Crooked or deformed toenails can be painful. Pedicures are a great treatment and a great treat. Pedicures can help keep areas clean from fungus and other bacteria. People that are trained in nail care know what is necessary to keep toes healthy. Exfoliation helps promote new skin growth and softens skin to allow penetration of different moisturizers and treatment masks. Treatment masks, moisturizers and paraffin wax all help moisturize and hydrate the skin and nail beds. Massage helps ease tension and promote circulation to the extremities. Massage may also help with diabetic neuropathy.

Moisturizing keeps the skin between the toes from getting cracked, dry and thick. Skin loses its retention of moisturizers as people age, so moisturizing is very important to our older population. Using products with hyaluronic acid, ceramides’ and alpha hydroxy are all beneficial for the skin
and its ability to retain moisture. Pedicures and manicures feel amazing and having pretty fingernails and toenails are great for a person’s confidence. There are special add-on treatments and spa services such as treatment masks with hot towels, paraffin wax and specialized treatment creams that are designed for problem skin. The use of CBD products has become very popular.
CBD is great for relieving aches and pains in all areas of the body. Some day spas use products with CBD in them to aid in the relaxation process. CBD is used with massage in addition to other treatments to help relieve muscle aches and pains. It is also an anti-inflammatory product. Some CBD oils have CBD and have peppermint, tea tree, eucalyptus, and clove oil which gives it a
cooling and refreshing feel for the skin.

Massage therapy has been used for years to help with many different problem areas. Massage helps increase circulation as well as releasing any knots, or any tension in the muscles. Massage is also a great way to relax and let go of stress. Licensed massage therapists are trained in different types of massage and modalities. A massage therapist will have an initial consultation with you prior to your massage to address any issues and contraindications that you may have. Massage therapy can be very beneficial for not only muscle aches and pains but for circulation as well. There are also specialized massage techniques that can be used to target particular problems such as cupping for athletes, or lymphatic drainage massage for those with certain medical needs, or prenatal massage for women that are pregnant and expecting. There are different levels of pressure that can be used for individual needs and desires. There’s also aromatherapy that can be added to the massage to assist with certain problematic needs such as sinus ailments. Spas offer additional add-ons for their massage clients, like, aromatherapy, hot towels, hot stones, deep tissue, Thai therapy stretching, as well as the CBD treatments offered. Retired and aging people can benefit from massage in many ways like, overall relaxation and relief from aches and pains massage that targets problematic areas.

Reflexology is a type of massage that uses pressure points to help alleviate pains throughout the body. Reflexology has been known to help with problematic target areas, but can also have some contraindications. Massage therapy has become more popular in the recent years and has crossed over not only into the spa industry but into the medical industry as well.

Another service offered by spas today are facials and back treatments. Facials are beneficial for many reasons and new products and different types of facials are being introduced nearly every day. Having facials and getting services done can be very relaxing, but can also be very beneficial to a person’s skin and how it ages. The skin is not only the largest organ of the body, but it influences the first impression. This important organ, skin, can also express how we feel and can be an indication of our health. Therefore, going to a professional to evaluate any problematic areas and needs is important to the retired and aging population. Spa facials are excellent at slowing down aging, prevent breakouts and any other issues that may arise as we age. Just like regular exercise is important for maintaining our health, so is getting regular facials.

As the aging population, mom and dad, aunts and uncles get older their skin loses its ability to retain moisture and cannot maintain its integrity. It loses its structure and cell growth functions. However, there are many facial treatments that can help maintain and restore those structures. A
micro-current facial uses a gentle electrical current to strengthen and tone facial muscles that keep our skin lifted. This treatment, when combined with light therapy, can also help restore collagen which tends to wear away and cause aging. Back treatments and back facials are great
for men and women who have acne on their back or other skin conditions that may need  attention. It’s similar to a facial, but it’s for the back. There are so many new services to try.

Getting spa treatments is not only a great relaxing experience, but can be very beneficial to your health and to the health of your aging moms and dads. So, consider buying them a treatment and a gift that will help them in many different ways; mind, body and soul. And consider bringing
mom and dad to a local spa for these special treatments this Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
